Why so many groups host their own Halloween event

Public events are fun, but they get crowded, and they don't fit every family's schedule. A lot of schools, churches, HOAs and parents would rather throw their own trunk-or-treat or fall fest. You pick the date, you know the guests, and the kids can play for hours without long lines.

The secret to a great one is simple: give kids something to do between the candy stops. Trunk-or-treat takes about 20 minutes. Games and treats keep everyone there for two or three hours.

Our favorite games for a trunk-or-treat or fall fest

These are Crazy Games FL's own games, and they fit a fall party well:

  • 4 in 1 Carnival ($349). One big inflatable carnival booth with four games in one, like Gone Bananas, Star Darts and a target throw. It looks like a real fair midway. See the 4 in 1 Carnival.
  • Hamster Wheels ($349). Kids crawl inside the big colorful tubes and roll them across the grass. Great for races.
  • Classic Ring Toss ($250). Easy for little ones, and fun for grown-ups too.
  • Disc Joust Arena ($450). A head-to-head jousting game that draws a cheering crowd.
  • Popcorn Machine ($199) and Cotton Candy Machine ($120). The smell of fresh popcorn makes any lawn feel like a fair.

Costume races are free fun on top of the rentals. A mummy-wrap relay with toilet paper rolls is always a hit in a school gym or fellowship hall.

Host your own in 5 easy steps

  1. Pick your date and spot. Weekend evenings in late October go first. A parking lot works for trunks, and a lawn next to it works for the games.
  2. Count your kids. Plan about one game for every 25 to 30 kids so lines stay short.
  3. Choose 3 or 4 games. Mix one big "wow" game, like the 4 in 1 Carnival, with quick ones like ring toss and races.
  4. Add a treat. Popcorn or cotton candy turns a parking lot into a fall fair.
  5. Book early. October weekends fill up fast. See how far in advance to book.
